Imagine That

Elephants & Spiders – The writing’s on the wall. Or on the floor.

One elephant went out to play

Upon a spider’s web one day

She had such enormous fun,

She called for another elephant to come!

Today in class we had five little spiders lay out a web using green painters’ tape.  We then used our spider finger puppets to trace along the web as we sang “The Eensy Weensy Spider” a few dozen times.  (Remembering of course that children learn best by repetition, and those who know 8 nursery rhymes by the time they’re 4 are often the best readers in their class by the time they’re 8.)  We then turned into elephants ourselves and had a wonderful time stomping along the web lines.

The finger tracing is an excellent pre-cursive exercise, and also works well with cars and trains.  Plus, they get the creative element of designing their own track.  Just remember to use painters’ tape – never duct tape.  Trust me on this.

The full body exercise is a great one in balance and eye-foot coordination.  So pull out the tape you’re not using on those renovations and let the fun begin!
