Kindermusik Family Time is a class designed for families with one or more children ages newborn to seven, who want to participate in an activity together. Just like in any of our age-specific classes, you’ll play instruments, dance, share and take turns, and experience how music can bring you closer as a family.

Older children gain self-confidence by showing the little ones how it’s done, and younger children experience the thrill of participating in a child-centered approach to learning in which children’s ideas and input shape the class. Activities designed to teach musical concepts and skills also provide an environment in which family ties are strengthened.

Spring 2012: Make Way For Music & Zoo Train
In Make Way for Music, families will sing, dance, and move their way through an exploration of several elements of music: beat and rhythm, concepts and contrasts (such as staccato and legato, high and low, the major scale, and arpeggios), the human voice, instrument families, and ensemble. They’ll engage in developmentally appropriate activities that the whole family can enjoy together, including fingerplays, songs, circle dances, story time, and family jam.Home Materials: Two books—Drum Circle and Animals on Parade, two Home CDs,  Family Guide, an instrument-matching board game and two finger drums.

In Zoo Train, children and trains make a natural match—always on the move. Tag along this summer with a traveling zoo train. Bring your own stuffed animals for the petting zoo. Wear long white socks on your hands for polar bear paws and learn about real animals in the zoo. Sing songs for clapping time, and use music to help toddlers regulate emotions.Home Materials: Zoo Train book, Home CD, animal shaker instrument, and poster.
Summer 2012: Creatures at the Ocean
Sing sailor songs and make the ocean count. “Five little seashells lying on the shore: Swish! Went the waves and then there were four.” Make homemade kites and fish sandwiches using fish-shaped bread and P.B. and J.

Home Materials: Home CD, pair of seashell castanet instrument, a set of 10 story cards and 5 picture folders.
